Affective priming enhances gaze cueing effect.

چکیده
Other's gaze direction triggers a reflexive shift of attention known as the cueing effect. Fearful facial expressions are further reported to enhance effect, but it remains unclear whether this facilitative effect is specific cues or result more general increase in attentional resources resulting from affective arousal. We examined effects priming on and arrow stimuli Posner task. Participants were primed with two types briefly presented (neutral, threatening), target location was cued either by an cue neutral face. Gaze preceded same face its eyes closed directed viewer. Study 1 (n = 26) assessed using manual key press, 2 30) employed gaze-contingent eye tracking techniques assess time first fixate location. Both studies found that threatening significantly enhanced not stimuli. The results therefore suggest does facilitate orienting, facilitation social such gaze. Physical self-similarity enhances the gaze-cueing effect.
Important social information can be gathered from the direction of another person's gaze, such as their intentions and aspects of the environment that are relevant to those intentions. Previous work has examined the effect of gaze on attention through the gaze-cueing effect: an enhancement of performance in detecting targets that appear where another person is looking. The present study investi...
متن کاملGrotesque Impressions Enhance the Gaze Cueing Effect
A non-predictive gaze cue produces a reflexive shift of attention to the gazed-at location. The present study used a modified version of Posner's attentional cueing paradigm (a gaze cueing paradigm) to investigate role of grotesque facial expressions on a gaze cueing effect involving induced fear. Grotesque faces were created by vertically shifting the position of one of the two eyes (Experimen...
متن کاملAffective Priming by Eye Gaze Stimuli: Behavioral and Electrophysiological Evidence
The present study employed the affective priming paradigm and measurements of event-related potentials (ERPs) to investigate implicit affective reactions elicited by gaze stimuli. Participants categorized positive and negative words primed by direct gaze, averted gaze and closed eyes. The behavioral response time (RT) results indicated that direct gaze implicitly elicited more positive affectiv...
متن کاملGaze cueing by pareidolia faces
Visual images that are not faces are sometimes perceived as faces (the pareidolia phenomenon). While the pareidolia phenomenon provides people with a strong impression that a face is present, it is unclear how deeply pareidolia faces are processed as faces. In the present study, we examined whether a shift in spatial attention would be produced by gaze cueing of face-like objects. A robust cuei...
